October 23 and 24
AARP Smart Driver Course
Presenter: Jim Schoffstall
Chota Rec Center, Room D, 9 am-2 pm
As with many skills practiced over the years, it’s a good idea to occasionally take the opportunity to refresh and update, look again at what used to feel like second nature and see again specific techniques for various challenging situations like making left turns across traffic, issues of right-of-way, and understanding signage.
In the 8 hours of this course (4 hours each day), the intent is to discuss, learn, enjoy, and come away with renewed confidence in our own skills. The time goes quickly, thanks to the lively discussions, short videos and “pop” quizzes and surveys.
Note: It is a good idea to bring a snack and water, coffee, or a soft drink to class each day.
At the successful completion of this course, participants will receive a certificate that may confirm their eligibility for a discount on their auto insurance. Consult your own insurance agent/company for details.
Presenter: A native of Pittsburgh, Jim retired from the United States Navy after 27 years. He worked at Raytheon for 16 years, and moved to Tellico Village in 2016. He took the AARP Smart Driver course a year ago and was so impressed with the value of the information that he qualified to become an instructor and bring the course back to the Village.
Class Fee: $20 for AARP members (with proof of membership); $25 for non-members.
Bring cash or check (made to AARP) to class.
